Valentines...

Bean was complaining a bit that his teacher made the class give Valentines cards to every kid in the class. I explained that if she didn't, there might be a kid that didn't get any. Then I remembered that I was that kid.

My therapist today told me that it isn't surprising I went crazy considering what my childhood was like. I have a tiny inkling that I would have gone crazy anyway.

Hi Beatrice -- I couldn't find your contact information anywhere, but I figure you'll get this just as readily as an email. I'm a writer and radio producer from West Virginia. I'm in the beginning stages of working on a radio documentary series with Allegheny Mountain radio (http://www.alleghenymountainradio.org/) that will look at the work of Mary Lee Settle. We hope to eventually air it on public radio stations in Appalachia.

My research has led me to you, her granddaughter! Would you be interested in speaking with me on the phone about the project? I certainly don't mean to invade your privacy in any way, but I would be grateful to hear from you just the same. I'd be happy to share more details on what I'm thinking at that point.

Needless to say, I'm an admirer of her work. I think we have a good opportunity here to do a nice piece that will bring Mary Lee's work to a widening audience, especially those in West Virginia, which, as you know, is really at the heart of all she did.

I can be reached at 304 574 6120 / 304 663 2202, or at beautymountainstudio 4t gmail d0t com. Hope you'll consider it.

Best,
Catherine
